Kwahu Easter has become a worldly celebrated festival which is been celebrated by the Kwahu’s and foreigner’s in the Eastern part of Ghana.
Last year due to the Covid-19 pandemic which affected almost every part of the world and has since brought a standstill of many events done virtually or been postponed.
The Kwahu Easter was postponed by the President of the republic Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo due to the spread of the virus, and this year’s celebration many estimated that the event will be opened for the Kwahu’s and foreigners across the world but it sad the Covid-19 restriction is still in progress even after the vaccination of some individuals.
Kwahu refers to an industrious people who are well known for their artistry in ceramic, woodcarving, pottery, and Kente weaving, found in the Eastern region of Ghana. The area is referred to as the Switzerland of Africa with nights as cold as those of Europe.
The atmosphere is so inviting and refreshing and makes it a perfect home for relaxation. The legendary Kwahu Easter celebrations have for many years been the most sought-after, event in Ghana during Easter festivities. It has earned its status as a festival of the Kwahu people, Ghanaians, African Diaspora, and the World at large.
Driving up and down the steep curvy hills into the town is enough to set the mood for the actual celebrations.
Some of the activities that go on during the festival are paragliding, street carnivals, live broadcast of TV and Radio stations, music and dance, food bazaars, African Product market, inter-community football games, cultural performances, art exhibitions and hike to the Nkofieho (Caves of life) through evergreen forests on the Odweanoma Mountain.
It mostly a 3 days celebration for the peoples of Kwahu’s.
This year’s event will be indoor as they meet with their families to discuss their progress and the towns and their environs. There wouldn’t be any big event but I’m sure people will still enjoy the special day with their families and friends.
Happy Easter hope you enjoy yourself even if you won’t be on the mountain to celebrate but please keep in mind that Covid-19 is real, protect yourself and the family, adhere to the protocols. Stay safe.
