Dolphin is a common name of aquatic mammals within the infraorder Cetacea. The term dolphin usually refers to the extant families Delphinidae.
It’s a surprise as to how they were found dead at the shores of Axim. We have been seeing this lovely creature mostly in movies or documentaries.
Axim is a coastal town and the capital of Nzema East Municipal district, a district in the Western Region of South Ghana. Axim lies 64 kilometers west of the port city of Sekondi-Takoradi in Western Region to the west of Cape Three Points.
According to fresh photos circulating on social media which were shared by a Facebook user known as Raphael Eshun a resident of Axim.
He didn’t disclose the reason the dolphins of about 600 dead which has spread across the shores of the sea, but some close sources also disclosed that it may be a poison that causes their death.
The residents around also disclosed that they counted the dolphins which were 600 in numbers.
As it stands, some fishermen who chanced on the dead dolphins have already cut them into pieces and sold them off to fishmongers.
A resident, Raphael Eshun, told the media that some fisherfolk could not wait for health workers to arrive at the scene before they could cash in on the situation.
“I saw more of the whales close to the seashore and I think more of them would be washed ashore today and tomorrow. The whales are so many that they have changed the colour of the sea water in the area,” he narrated.
The photos were shared on Facebook by a musician identified as Raphael Eshun Kwelity.
Sharing the photos, he wrote: “Guess what is happening at Axim now. Shoal of dolphins get stuck at Brawire beach.”
